Each student in this class is asked to write a term paper on a chosen AI topic and make a short presentation in the lab before submitting your final paper.

Choose an AI concept from the following list, or propose your own AI concept topic. Write a term paper that explains your chosen AI concept, typical algorithms related to the concept, the characteristics and analysis of these algorithms and where and how your chosen AI concept is applied in some typical application domains.

• Constraint programming
• Dynamic programming
• Unsupervised learning
• AI in uncertain environment
• AI in adversarial or cooperative multi-agent environment
• Nature inspired algorithms
• Percept capability of an AI agent
• Actuation capability of an AI agent
• Propose your own

If you need any help to determine whether your term paper topic is appropriate, please send me your topic and your intended scope, and any preliminary work you've done so far, by the end of the reading week.

The submit deadline of your term paper (a PDF file) is 8:00am, 11 December 2023. You can submit a hard copy or electronically on cubs/pups using command:

or upload your file to VIU Learn under the tab assessment/assignments/termpaper. Your electronic file should be a PDF file.

You earn one mark for your term paper and presentation. There is no minimum length requirement for your term paper. Instead, the marking criteria consists:

• the conciseness, relevance, clarity and logical coherence of explaining the topic in your term paper and in your presentation;
• the deep understanding of the topic presented in your term paper and in your presentation; and
• the novelty and accuracy of the information conveyed in your term paper and in your presentation.
