Using Links

"a" elements are used to link to another web page - or perhaps another place in the same web page. The a element is an inline element - and so needs to be nested (contained) in a block element, usually an li or a p.

(Perhaps it is useful to remember the syntax by thinking that you are a-ing the clickable text just as you might em it for emphasis. i.e. the clickable text becomes the content of an a element, just as the emphasized text becomes the content of an em element.)

If the page is stored on another server, then you will need to use the full URL as the href attribute value.

Use id attributes to identify other points in the same page so that they can be "jumped to". (Previously "page anchors" were used)
